Microsoft Office for iPad now available with subscription
Microsoft Office for iPad is now available for download in the App Store. The much-awaited suite of productivity apps includes Word, Excel and PowerPoint for the iPad. Users are required to have an Office 365 subscription, which costs $99 per year, in order to use the apps.
Office comes to iPad
For years, iPad users have been left stranded without an official version of Microsoft Office. It was said that Apple's tablet was not well-suited for productivity work while others assumed that Microsoft did not want to cannibalize its desktop Office suite. However, that all changed when Microsoft's new CEO Satya Nadella took over. Under Nadella's watch, Microsoft released Office for the iPhone last year and promised to release Office for the iPad sometime in 2014. Now, that day has arrived.
Office for iPad features
Office for iPad includes Word, Excel and PowerPoint, but does not include Outlook or Access. Each app features the familiar interface of Office 2013 for Windows and Office 2011 for Mac. Users will be able to access documents they've created on other devices through Microsoft's SkyDrive cloud storage service. The apps are compatible with iPad 2 and later models and require iOS 7.0 or later.
How to use Office for iPad
To use Office for iPad, users must have an Office 365 subscription. The subscription costs $99 per year and is valid for use on up to five PCs or Macs and five mobile devices. With the subscription, users can create, edit and save documents using the Office apps on the iPad. They will also be able to use the web-based Office apps on their PCs or Macs. To obtain the subscription, users can purchase it from the App Store, through Microsoft's website, or through other retailers.
Microsoft Office for iPad offers iPad users the chance to use the world's most popular office suite on their devices. The apps themselves are free to download, but users must have an Office 365 subscription to use them. Office 365 costs $99 per year, which can be a little steep for many users. However, for those who use Office on a regular basis and need to access their documents on their iPad, it's definitely worth the investment.
